Well, it is when the patient takes the tube out themselves...
It was Petes turn to hold Faith for her feeding and in the process Faith had decided that she was going to cough out her ventilator tube. We were so scared, cause she had been riding the machine still and was not doing all her own breathing. She was at room air which is very good, but she needed more then just that to be extubated.
The dr had said that we were probably going to wait til the weekend to do that so that she was 100% ready to be off the machine.
Well, Faith made the decision a whole lot easier for them...
She has been off the vent for over 2 hours now and has been breathing on her own, and keeping her oxygen levels up as well. Pete just put her down now and she is getting ready to be fed some more.
They also change her eating times, from every 3 hours to every 4 hours. They are also going to give her 12 mL every time now. She is digesting most of what she is taking in, but needs to improve more on that...baby steps though...
Anyhow, so that is the big update today. She is no longer on the vent and is doing great...God is so awesome!! The dr's and nurses were and still are shocked that she is doing this well on her own too!! What a testimony just right there.
Oh yeah, and when they took the tubes out they had to suction her nose. The comment from one of the nurses was "I have never seen anything like that before!!" They couldn't get all the snot out with the suction, so they took a cloth to clean up the remainder and this piece of snot was soooooo long...it was like the never ending snot...
No wonder she couldn't breathe! Thanks for all the continued prayers and support...we hope to have some pictures up here soon.
Sounds like you have a baby with a whole lot of strength! I look foward to pictures.
