My weight struggles!!

What a week. We have kept pretty busy here. Yesterday was my calorie counting meeting and I stayed the same, no gain no loss. I am ok with that, though I wish I had of lost some more weight. I have quite a bit that I want to lose and I know I am going to get there. Do I post my starting weight??? Do I post how much I would like to lose??? How personal is that??? Oh well, I am going to keep track here anyways...When I started the calorie counting group I was 216. After my first week I was down to 212. This week, like I said earlier, I stayed the same. I am aiming for a long time goal of around 140, I think. Who knows what I will think when I get there!! Before I had kids I weighed a whopping 117 pounds. I could eat what I wanted, whenever I wanted and it didn't matter! Nothing ever stayed on me.

Then I got pregnant, at 19, with my first child. I gained a huge 70 pounds with him. My grandma always told me afterwards to exercise so that I would lose the weight...20 years old, a great metabolism...hmmm I don't need to exercise!! Started my second pregnancy at 170, gained only 25 pounds and lost most of it afterwards. Started my third pregnancy around 185 and gained only about 20 pounds. I was 32 weeks along when she was born to heaven. About 3 months after Angel was born still, we were pregnant again. I hadn't lost any of the weight, so my fourth pregnancy started weighing in at around 205 pounds. Again, a 25 pound weight gain with her and lost some of it after. Started my fifth pregnancy at 215. About 25 pounds again (I was consistent with weight gain after my first!!) This was the heaviest I have ever been.

A year later and I am down to 212. I am doing ok, but I am looking forward to losing some more. My first goal is to get to 190. I haven't been there since 2000. So, I am going to start journalling my calorie counts for each day...some sense of accountability while I am working on this.

So my first count, yesterday, I had a peach for breakfast with a glass of water - 38 calories. For lunch I had 2 hotdogs, 1 bun (it is the summer and hotdogs were on sale!!), with ketchup, mustard and relish - 399. For dinner I had 2 pieces of ham, 2 cups of noodles with cream of mushroom soup (I need to work on portion control!!) and 6 brussel sprouts - 624 calories. Snack, 3 (small) Coffee Crisp Yogurt bars - 210 calories and 1 can of Dr. Pepper - 140 calories . So the total calories for yesterday was 1411 calories.

I am trying to keep within the 1500-1800 calories a day total. This way I hope to comfortably lose some weight and keep it off.

I also walked to the community center and back. I need to get a pedometer to keep track of my steps now. I am hoping to be able to head to the Y to use some of their equipment too.

Gonna run now. Gotta work on supper.

  1. I think it is good that you are writing it down! maybe that makes it harder to just pop things into ones mouth! that is my problem...I just eat and then after am like oh no....I didn't even realize what I was doing!!

    sounds like you have some motivation though and that is wonderful! and key too I think!

  3. Hey Ruthie...We have that same issue in common. I pray that God will give you the wisdom and take away the urges. You are still beautiful despite the weight but I know that we feel better physically and mentally when we are at the size we want to be....Here is my cheer.....You go girl...you are on the right track.
