My son, Mr. Hockey, played his last game of ball hockey for the season. They didn't win one game in the entire year! Today they were playing the 20 minute consolation game and it was a 1-1 tie at the end of the 20 minutes. This has been unheard of all season...they went into the 5 minute overtime and with less then a minute left the other team scored.
It was heart wrenching as a parent...I wanted them to win at least one game, so badly!! It didn't seem to bug him too much. he just had a great time playing goalie that it didn't matter either way. I love my son, he is so easy going...
Today is also Pooky's birthday. She turned the big 1!! I can't believe it has already been a year. I know, everyone says that all the time, but really, I feel like I just gave birth!! She got lots of nice gifts and we made a bunch of chinese food for dinner. She really likes egg rolls, so this was a winner meal for her! We will get a cake for her on Monday maybe. We just had so much to do today, it was a lot to fit it all in...
Tomorrow we are teaching in Sunday School. Usually we pick a country and learn about it and then have dinner together that night to taste the food of that country. Tomorrow, being Easter and all, we are not having an evening dinner. So I thought it would be kinda neat to focus on Passover instead of a specific country.
I think it was 2 years ago that our family celebrated Passover as part of our study of Ancient Egypt. We had so much fun and it was really interesting to learn all about Passover and see how Christians can celebrate it as much as the Jews.
So far we have made matzoh balls and soup (mmmm, I love matzoh ball soup!!), we are going to hide a piece of matzoh, referred to as the afikomen. The kids get to look for it at the end of the seder and whomever finds it gets a prize.
We are going to walk through what an example of a passover dinner is like. We don't have enough time to do it all, but we will be learning about the plagues, the slavery, the symbols and the food. I am trying to find some kind of a craft to do with the kids. I am thinking the kids could each design their own seder plate, a paper craft. They can put on all the symbols, and they will be able to tell their parents all about it!
At our house today, we painted eggs for Easter. Last year, I don't think we had the time to do it, but, I have always wanted to blow the insides of the eggs out and dye a hollow egg. So we did that too. It was actually a lot of fun. Next year we will be buying some scraping tools or special paint to make some more extravagant designs on them.
Anyhow, that has been my day so far. It is just 9pm now, and we have an early morning for treat hunting!! Yes, we do that in our house also. I think it is ok for us to have a good balance there. Our family totally knows the Easter story, what it means to us, and that is a big part of our lives all the time. For the most part, I believe the older kids know the "truth" and it is just a fun game we play to get some chocolate!!(of which we, parents, eat most!!)
So, I am gonna run now...
wow the passover study sounds so cool! what a great idea!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't do the egg hunt this year! I kind of feel bad but not really! does that make sense? I won a Easter Basket full of chocolates at the ladies retreat last weekend so we have been eating chocolate all week...so I figured that is enough!!
the kids are performing a drama to music tomorrow at church and then the family is coming over for dinner so I am looking forward to it! I would love to learn to make that soup!!!
have a great rest of the weekend
and a BIG happy birthday to Pooky!!
Those kids were jammed in that room today. Next time we'll have to take a picture for the "before we expanded the room" shot. It's hard to believe how much we've come along, the fact that your baby is 1 already is proof that life moves far too fast.
