I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Valentines Day!!
Dd4 enjoyed a party at her preschool today. I knew it was coming and dh has something up his sleeve for us tonight, but we forgot about getting something special for the kids!! I think I will get dh to pick something up on his way home from work, maybe a cake or some cupcakes...
I am gonna run, just wanted to drop in and wish everyone a nice, commercial holiday.
Shouldn't we tell those who are special to us that we love them everyday??
Have a good one!!

ReplyDeletehave a good day! and yes I agree we should tell people we love them everyday
Maybe you don't know the history of Valentine's Day. Let me share what I know...
ReplyDeleteLong ago there was a Roman Emperor named Claudius II who issued an edict forbidding marriages. There used to be a lotto system that women's names were drawn and that woman was then assigned to a man for life. Valentine, a bishop at the time felt for the young couples who wanted to marry. He would meet them in secret places and perform marriage ceremonies. Claudius found out about it and had Valentine arrested. Claudius tried to convert Valentine to worship Roman gods but Valentine would not deny his Christian faith.
While he was in prison, a jailor named, Asterius had a blind daughter, he requested that Valentine pray for healing for her. Valentine using his faith prayed and the daughter was healed from blindness. Just before he was executed, Valentine asked for pen and paper and sent this woman a farewell note signing it "From Your Valentine"
It is believed Valentine was executed on February 14 or 24th, 270. Valentine was honored as someone who honoured love. Thus Valentine's Day came about. As cards were shared, Christianity spread. So, Valentine's is not a commercial holiday, it's roots are in Christianity and it celebrates love and marriage.
